This funky syncopated groove has an interesting harmonic element that requires a specific sound to really fit the chord progression. This modal vamp has a tonal center of A, but the best scale to start playing with is D harmonic minor or the 5ht mode of this scale, which would be A Phrygian dominant. The formula for this scale is 1-b2-3-4-5-b6-b7. Playing through the arpeggios of both of those scales also creates interesting note choices. It is also possible to use the A Phrygian mode as well as just the A blues/minor pentatonic scale. Try also thinking like a sitar player playing a raga, where one might take their time to introduce each new note in the scale. This can make for some creative phrasing. 120 BPM.
Recommended Scales: D harmonic minor, A Phrygian dominant, A Phrygian, A blues/minor pentatonic.
