This jazz jam track has a deep funk groove that is great fun to play along with. It’s also a good workout for your phrasing and counting skills as it forces you to keep track of the long modal chord progression. The form is AABA which means and the A section is modal groove in Cmin. The B section shifts up 1/2 step to Db minor so your soloing will have to shift with it. To help keep track of where you are, keep your phrasing and musical ideas to 8 bar sections. Resolve your ideas when the rhythm section turns the phrase around. Minor pentatonic/blues licks will always work, but try digging into the dorian modes. And since the dorian scale is just the second mode of the major scale, try using all the 7 modes of the major scale and see which ones fit! By using 7th chord arpeggios of all the modes, yo’ll get some really cool sounds. 100 BPM.
Recommended Scales: In C and Db… Minor pentatonic/blues, Dorian Minor, all 7 modes of the Bb and B Major Scales and their 7th chord arpeggios.
