From the recording Backing Tracks for Jazz Guitar Vol. 1
This jam track is based on the classic Kenny Dorham tune, Blue Bossa. Not only does this chord progression inspire melodic improvisations, but it is also a great ii V I workout in both major and minor keys. The A section is based around Cmin7 with a modulation to Dbmaj7 in the B section. To dig deeper into the harmony, the improviser should work out ideas in both key centers. Try using C Aeolian over the A section and then switching to C Harmonic Minor when playing over the G7(b9) chord. Use Dbmaj7 over the first four measures of the B section. 148 BPM.
Recommended Scales: C Aeolian, C minor pentatonic/blues, C harmonic minor, Db major.
